Two Fish in a Day

It was a cold wet November day and the wind was blowing the rain horizontally. I was wet through and wished that I was not giving a carving exhibition for the Hollingworth Lake Woodland Festival. That I had been asked to carve animals and I had chosen fish, seemed to be suitably ironic .
The wood was 'Y' shaped and I got a fish out of each arm of the 'Y' and two lily leaves out of the middle of the 'Y'. In this way I was working with the strength of the wood, hoping to prevent bits falling off in the future. Almost all the work was done with a chain saw. The saw's engine at least kept my hands warm. The final details of eyes and gills were hand carved by feel about 4pm when the light was going. It was almost in the dark when the final photograph was taken.
