Olive Picker
I found a lump of olive besides a path near Soller in Majorca. Lump is the best description, for it as it had been hacked out of the tree in such a brutal way that I have not found any geometric shape that described the shape. It looked interesting!! The scarfe and the bag over the shoulder were just there in the wood, and only needed a little tidying up. I found a face under the scarfe. The body just seemed to flow from there. This is a good example of the Ancient Greek idea that "every stone contains a sculpture, all the sculptor has to do is release it". |
